really good Daytona!
Aided by great weather,
Nortona (the meet in Flagler
Beach) was attended by no
less than 48 persons, many of
whom showed up on Nortons.
Plenty of BBQ, drinks and door
prizes and a chance to meet
and greet several people whom
I had not seen in awhile. The
only blank spot during the week
was when we rode over to High
Tides for lunch, only to discover
they were closed! No reason
given, although it is understood
that it had to be a good one,
being Bike Week.
Another thing I noticed was when I attended the 200 on
Saturday. This was the 昀rst one I had attended at the stands
since they switched formats a few years ago. Uh, where were
all the people? Although the racing was top-notch, I seem to
sense a lack of excitement from the days when they ran
Formula 750 with Kenny Roberts and Dale Singleton. One
thing I liked was that the Baggers race followed the main event,
which should keep the departing traf昀c spread out a bit.
A bit of sad news came to my attention recently - Vic Bannister
passed away last January. Vic was one of the long-distance
stalwarts in the club, having ridden his 850 Interstate from his
home in Alabama to rallies in California, Maine, and who knows
where else - he had put about 100,000 miles on his Norton
alone, and also owned Triumph and Ducati bikes. I still have a
picture that Pete Kogut took of him and me crossing Nevada
eastbound on Highway 50. It hangs on my wall in my man cave
today.
As we come up to rally time, the big question still
remains: Where is the 2027 Rally going to be? As of this
writing, no person or chapter has stepped up yet. A couple of
