plate was also stuck from the
debris and that was not
removable by anything we tried.
We ordered replacement parts,
including a new sprag, primary
chain and tensioner. After a close
look and some research, we may
have found what happened.
This picture shows the plastic
piece that 昀ts below the spring
inside the plunger. Its narrow
part is just the right size to 昀t
into the spring so that the
button end abuts against the end of the plunger barrel. Or it can go
the other way round, with the button end against the spring. That
way it would act as a shim, tensioning the spring by about ¾ inch.
The drawing in the factory shop manual doesn9t show the plastic
part as having the button end. The question of which way it goes
was discussed on the accessnorton.com forum long ago, with no
