When the parts arrived we were able to compare the remains of
the old tensioner to what came from Andover Norton. The tensioner
springs in the new one are longer than the remaining undamaged
and presumably original spring in the old one. And yet, the
instructions Andover Norton included in the new part clearly show
the plastic piece used as a preload. But when the unit is assembled
that way, it is nearly spring-bound at full compression. Is that what
caused the broken spring I found? No way to tell but it9s possible.
