the positioning of the adhesive tabs, we still had a few torn issues
— but THEY DIDN’T PRINT THE COVER! It was mailed out
completely blank. The printers agreed to reprint the entire issue
and mail it at their expense, so now everyone has two copies of
NN200. Fortunately, it seems to have survived the U.S. Postal
Service’s sorting machines with minimal damage — but the
evolution continues.
One suggestion is to use a lighter paper that is still coated for
color photos so it folds 昀氀atter, passes through the machines more
easily, and is lighter overall. This might allow us to add a few pages
while still staying under the Postal Service weight limit. After
reviewing some other clubs’ newsletters, I really like this idea, and
we’ll probably try it for this issue.
Another idea we’ve discussed is offering a digital option. For the
next few issues, we will continue sending the print edition, but we
will also send a digital version to everyone for whom we have
email addresses. If you prefer the digital edition, just let Tari know,
and she will remove you from the printed mailing list.
The advantages of digital are many:
1. It’s faster — you’ll receive it as soon as I 昀椀nish the
issue, rather than waiting a month for printing and
mailing.
2. You can enlarge it to better see the photos and read
the text.
3. You can read it anywhere on your phone.
4. It’s much cheaper to produce.
The discussion now is whether or not to raise dues, given
the higher cost of printing and mailing. If enough members opt for
the digital version, we won’t need to raise dues.
But regardless, time marches on, as it always does. The
Daytona 500 is today, and you know what that means. Forget that
silly groundhog — when the NASCAR boys start burning rubber in
Daytona, winter is over, and Daytona Bike Week is right around the
corner. I got in my 昀椀rst ride of the year yesterday, and I’ll watch
the 500 today while trying to 昀椀gure out how to get to Daytona
for Nortona.
